Disadvantages of Conventional Scratch Removal System
All other systems on the market are considered conventional scratch removal systems. These consist of using a drill or grinder, with an impregnated polishing pad or a synthetic felt polish pad that you would then apply a cerium oxide or aluminum oxide paste to perform either polishing or grinding of the glass.
Low Powered
- Open-faced systems have no way to keep the glass cool. This limits you to how fast the polishing system can operate. Conventional systems operate at between 1,300 rpm's and 3,000 rpm's. The systems that operate at the higher rpm cannot operate at that rpm for any length of time. What this amounts to is much quicker results when using the NOVUS Glass Restoration System.
Inconsistent Polishing Creates Distortion
- When using an opened faced system you have no way to monitor and control your pressure of the polisher system to the glass because you are using body pressure. The NOVUS system vacuum seals to the glass. Then a built in clutch will control the pressure of the polishing pad to the glass surface. This is reflected in what's called the amp gauge. This way you are able to set the system up in order to obtain peak performance.
Inefficient and Messy
- The paste that is generally sold with these types of systems can only be used as a one time application. Meaning you are unable to reuse the polishing paste on more than one job. The NOVUS Glass Restoration System has the polishing or fining compound mixed with two gallons of water. Then a submersible pump is submerged into the "slurry" bucket. From the bucket you have hoses run up to the polishing or fining machine. When the machine is applied to the glass the submersible pump creates a vacuum and seals the machine to the glass and the "slurry" mixture is recycled through the machine and back into the bucket. This allows you to reuse the consumable material.
